October 4, 2026 Β· Healing Room Six Nations
Nobody is born knowing how to buy cannabis. People come to our counter in Ohsweken having read a dozen articles and still not knowing whether to ask for a gram or an ounce, whether 24% THC is a lot, or whether they're about to be asked a question they can't answer.
So here are the questions people actually ask us, with the answers we actually give. No lecture, no judgment, and nothing you need to pretend to already know.
19+ only. Cannabis is for adults 19 and older in most of Canada β 18 in Alberta, 21 in Quebec. Age is verified at the counter and again at the door on a shipped order.
Yes, and nobody minds. First-timers are a good chunk of who walks in, and the staff would genuinely rather you said "I have no idea what I'm doing" than guessed at a word you heard somewhere. That sentence gets you better service here, not worse.
The thing to bring isn't vocabulary. It's a rough answer to two questions: when do you picture using this, and do you want to feel settled or switched on? That's enough to narrow a wall of fifty jars down to three. Everything else is detail you can pick up later.
Nineteen in Ontario and most of the country, eighteen in Alberta, twenty-one in Quebec. You need valid government-issued photo ID β a driver's licence, a passport, a provincial photo card. A health card on its own won't do it, and neither will a photo of your ID on your phone.
If your order is shipped, Canada Post checks the same ID at the door. They will not leave cannabis in a mailbox, on a step, or with a neighbour, and they won't hand it to someone underage who answers instead of you. Somebody of legal age has to be there.
This is the question we get most, and it deserves a straight answer.
Healing Room operates on Six Nations of the Grand River territory, under Six Nations and Haudenosaunee law β the same nation-to-nation footing the tobacco trade here has run on for generations. That is a different legal order from the provincial retail system, not an absence of one. We are an Indigenous-owned shop operating under our own nation's jurisdiction.
For you as the buyer, the practical facts are the ones above: be of legal age, show real ID, and be there to receive it. If you want the longer version of how on-territory retail works and why the prices differ, that's in the Six Nations dispensary guide and in why buy from an Indigenous-owned dispensary.
Ignore the names on your first visit. Gas Leak and Zombie Kush tell you nothing useful yet; they're brand names, not instructions.
Start one level up, with the three words that sort the whole shelf:
That's genuinely the whole first decision. If you want the real version β which is that the indica/sativa split is a rough shorthand and terpenes do more of the work β it's in indica vs sativa vs hybrid. But you don't need it to buy something sensible today.
Less than you think, and here is the honest reason: you don't yet know whether you'll like it.
A pre-roll is the cleanest first purchase. It's already rolled, it's one sitting, and if the strain turns out not to suit you, you've learned that for a couple of dollars instead of committing to an ounce. Pre-rolls are here.
If you'd rather have flower, buy the smallest size on offer β typically 3.5 grams. Our ounces are genuinely good value and that's exactly why they're the wrong first move: value only counts if it's a product you want again. Come back for the 28-gram wall once you know what you're buying.
Three different things, and only one of them matters much on day one.
If you remember one of the three, remember that a lower THC number is the friendlier starting point.
They behave so differently that picking the wrong one is the most common way a first experience goes badly.
Flower or a pre-roll you smoke. It arrives within a few minutes and it's mostly done inside two hours. Because you feel it quickly, it's the easiest one to stop early β which is why it's the usual recommendation to start with. Flower Β· Pre-rolls
Edibles go through your stomach. They can take thirty minutes to two hours to arrive, and they last far longer. Nearly every "I had a bad time" story starts with someone deciding after forty minutes that it wasn't working and eating more. Start with a corner of one piece, wait two full hours, and don't negotiate with yourself in between. Dosing is covered properly in the edibles guide. Edibles
Vapes are quick like smoking and concentrated, so small draws go a long way. Vapes, and cannabis vapes explained if you want the detail first.
You'll be uncomfortable, and then you'll be fine. This is worth saying plainly because the fear of it does more harm than the thing itself.
Too much cannabis typically feels like a racing heart, a spinning head, and a strong conviction that something is wrong. It passes. What helps: sit or lie down somewhere you know, have water nearby, put something undemanding on, and tell whoever you're with that you've overdone it so they can keep you company. What doesn't help: more cannabis, alcohol, or being alone trying to tough it out.
Avoiding it is simpler than managing it β start low, go slow, and leave two hours between an edible and any decision about a second one. If something feels medically wrong rather than just unpleasant, call a doctor or 911. That advice costs nothing and we would always rather you used it.
Either.
In person: 7147 Indian Line Rd, Ohsweken, on Six Nations of the Grand River. Open seven days β 9:00 am to 9:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and to 10:00 pm Friday through Sunday. You can pay at the counter, and you can see the whole shelf, which genuinely helps on a first visit. If you'd like to know the drive from your town, that's listed on our near-me page.
Shipped: anywhere in Canada by tracked Canada Post. Order online, pay by Interac e-Transfer from your own bank, and it arrives in a few business days with the age check at the door. Free over $250.
We don't run a local courier any more β it's in-store pickup or Canada Post, and nothing else.
It arrives as an ordinary tracked parcel with no branding and nothing on the outside describing what's in it. The return address is a business address, not a description of the contents.
The one thing that isn't discreet is the age check: Canada Post will ask the person at the door for photo ID. That's a legal requirement on cannabis and tobacco shipments, and it's the part we can't make invisible. Plan for someone of legal age to be home.
Because the provincial system layers excise duty, provincial markup and retail margin onto every gram before you see it, and on-territory retail doesn't carry that stack. It's a difference in which legal order the sale happens under, not a difference in the plant.
What that looks like in practice is easiest to see on ounces β the gap is widest at the 28-gram end, which is why most of our returning customers buy there. There's a full breakdown in weed prices in Toronto and in how to buy cannabis in bulk. Live prices are always on the shop, because the shelf changes weekly.
The counter will answer a question like "I've never done this, what should I get?" without blinking, and so will we by phone at 226-802-7233 or by email. There is no version of that question we haven't heard.
What's the best first cannabis purchase? A single pre-roll, or the smallest size of flower. One sitting, low commitment, and you learn what you actually like.
How long before I feel an edible? Thirty minutes to two hours. Wait the full two hours before taking any more β this is the single most common first-timer mistake.
Do I need a medical document? No. This is adult recreational purchase: legal age and valid photo ID is all that's required.
Can someone else accept my delivery? Only if they're of legal age and can show photo ID. Canada Post won't leave cannabis unattended. There's more in can someone else accept a delivery.
Is a higher THC percentage better? No β just stronger. Start in the high teens rather than the high twenties.
Do you ship to Quebec? Yes, and everywhere else in Canada. Quebec's legal age is 21.
