Once you've spent some time with flower, concentrates are usually the next curiosity — and the terminology can be intimidating. Shatter, live resin, diamonds, hash, rosin… they're all cannabis, but the experience, potency, and price are very different. Here's the plain-English breakdown.

A concentrate is exactly what it sounds like: the cannabinoids and terpenes extracted from cannabis flower, with most of the plant material removed. Where dried flower typically tests between 15–30% THC, concentrates commonly run 60–90%+ THC. That's the single most important thing to understand before trying them: a little does a lot.

The classic concentrate — a translucent, amber sheet that snaps like hard candy. Shatter is made by extracting cannabinoids with a solvent that's then purged off. It's potent, stable, and usually the most affordable route to high THC, which is why it remains a best-seller.
Made from flower that's frozen immediately at harvest instead of dried and cured. Freezing preserves the terpenes — the aromatic compounds that give each strain its personality — so live resin tastes and smells dramatically more like the living plant. If shatter is about potency-per-dollar, live resin is about flavour.
The original concentrate, made for centuries by collecting and pressing the plant's resin glands. Modern hash ranges from traditional pressed styles to premium ice-water hash. At 20–60% THC it's the gentlest step up from flower, which makes it a smart first concentrate.
Crystallized THCA — the most potent form of cannabis commonly sold, often north of 90%. Diamonds are usually sold in a terpene "sauce" for flavour. These are an experienced-user product; there's no shame in working up to them.
Made with heat and pressure only — no solvents. Comparable potency to shatter with live-resin-level flavour, usually at a premium price.
