Accessories are where a shop makes its margin and where a customer is easiest to oversell. A $5 grinder and a $46 grinder do the same job. One does it better for longer β but not nine times better.
Here's what actually changes the experience, what's a genuine upgrade, and what can wait.
19+ only. Smoking accessories are sold alongside cannabis and tobacco and are 19+ in Ontario.
If you buy one thing on this page, buy a grinder. Uneven grind is the single biggest cause of a joint burning down one side, and it's almost never the paper's fault.
What actually matters:
The kief chamber is the one people underestimate. It collects the trichomes that fall off during grinding, and after a few months there's enough there to top a bowl with.
The plastic Bob Marley grinder is $5.75 and will grind your weed today. The NG Premium Grinder with extra teeth is $46 and will still be grinding it in ten years.
Honest advice: if you smoke occasionally, the $5.75 one is fine. If you smoke daily, the metal one costs about a cent a day over its life.
A dry pipe is the least equipment for the most portability. No water, no setup, nothing to spill. The trade-off is that the smoke arrives hot and undiluted, which is harder on the throat than anything else here.
Small pipes are $11.50. Buy one to keep in a bag, not as your main piece.
The Pip Hash Pipe at $28.75 is a different tool β built for hash and concentrate rather than flower, where you want a small amount held against gentle heat rather than a bowl burning through.
Both pull smoke through water. Water does two things: it cools the smoke, and it filters out some particulate. Cooling is the part you feel.
A bubbler is a pipe with a small water chamber built in. Handheld, one piece, a small amount of water. Far smoother than a dry pipe, still portable, nothing to assemble.
A bong is bigger, stands on its own, holds far more water and much more smoke. Smoother again, and it can deliver a much larger hit β which is either the point or the problem depending on who's holding it.
The Premium Glass Bubbler is $28.75, as is the Premium XL Glass Bowl with Bubbler. The NG Black Glass Bong is $172.50.
That's a real gap, and worth being straight about: a bubbler at $28.75 gives most people the majority of what they want from water filtration. The bong is a better experience and a piece of furniture you'll keep β but nobody needs to start there.
Glass bowls break. They get dropped, they crack from heat cycling, and they always break at the least convenient moment. They're the cheapest part of the setup and the one that stops everything when it goes.
Regular glass bowls with stem run $8.05 to $13.80 depending on size. Buy a spare with the piece, not after you break the first one.
Check the joint size before ordering β 14mm and 18mm are both common and they are not interchangeable.
Concentrates need different equipment than flower. Heat is applied to a surface rather than a flame to the material.
If you're new to concentrates, the live hash rosin guide covers what you'd actually be putting in it.
A dirty piece tastes bad and pulls badly. Resin narrows the airway and every hit after that is worse than the one before.
Green Clean metal cleaner is $17.25 and does in a few minutes what soaking overnight does badly. A solvent pipe at $11.50 is worth having for the same reason.
Clean glass more often than feels necessary. It's the cheapest upgrade to an existing piece there is β better than buying a new one.
