Gold Star Smokes is the most visible native smoke shop in Canadian search results. If you have typed "native cigarettes online" into Google in the last year, you have probably landed on them. They publish a large blog, they rank well, and their site is easy to use.

Visibility and price are different things. Being the first shop you find is not the same as being the cheapest one, and in this case the gap is large: $17.50 a carton, every carton, for tobacco that comes off the same shelves and in several cases out of the same factories.

They compare on "clarity," "consistency," "operational clarity" and "repeat-order confidence." Their comparison of a shop that advertises itself as Canada's cheapest opens by saying the difference is "not price vs price" but "model vs model."

When a shop charging $40.00 a carton writes 2,000 words about why price is not the point, that is worth noticing.

This is not a comparison of different products. Gold Star's shelf and ours overlap heavily, because most native cigarettes in Canada come from a small number of manufacturers — several of them on Six Nations itself.

Where the Price Difference Comes From

Not from a sale, and not from a coupon. There is no first-order code here because there is no inflated price to discount.

Healing Room is an Indigenous-owned shop on Six Nations of the Grand River, the largest First Nations community in Canada. Tobacco sold on territory by an Indigenous retailer sits outside the provincial retail tax structure, and the shop operates under Six Nations and Haudenosaunee law. Premium brands like Oakdale and Putters are manufactured by Grand River Enterprises on Six Nations — the tobacco does not travel far to reach the shelf.

The second reason is the pricing model. Our carton price steps down with the size of the order, and it steps down from a number that was already the lowest in the comparison:
