What Are Nicotine Pouches? How to Use One — From $11.50

Nicotine pouches have quickly become one of the most popular smoke-free nicotine products in Canada. They're small, discreet, tobacco-free, and come in dozens of flavours and strengths. But if you're new to them, the options can be confusing. This beginner's guide explains what a nicotine pouch actually is, what is inside one, and exactly how to use it — where it goes, how long it stays in, and what the tingle means.

19+ only. Nicotine pouches are an age-restricted product and nicotine is addictive. You must be 19 or older to buy, with age verification required at delivery.

New to pouches? The single thing most worth getting right is strength — see nicotine pouch strengths explained, 6mg to 16mg.

What Are Nicotine Pouches?

A nicotine pouch is a small, soft pouch containing nicotine, flavouring, and plant-based fibres — but no tobacco leaf. You place it between your upper lip and gum, where it slowly releases nicotine and flavour. There's nothing to light, no smoke, and no spitting.

Because they're tobacco-free, they're often called "all-white" pouches to distinguish them from traditional snus (which contains tobacco). The most popular brands in Canada include ZYN, Velo, and White Fox — all three are regular stock on our pouch wall.

How Are Nicotine Pouches Different From Smoking or Vaping?

• No smoke — nothing is burned, so there's no smoke or ash
• No vapour — unlike vapes, there's nothing to inhale and no device to charge
• No tobacco — pouches contain nicotine but no tobacco leaf
• Discreet — a slim pouch sits invisibly under your lip; you can use one almost anywhere
• Spit-free — unlike traditional chew or snus, there's no need to spit

This makes pouches a popular choice for situations where smoking or vaping isn't practical — at work, on a flight, indoors, or anywhere you simply don't want smoke or vapour.

How to Use a Nicotine Pouch (Step by Step)

1. Take one pouch from the can
2. Place it between your upper lip and gum, off to one side
3. Leave it in place — don't chew or swallow it. Most people keep a pouch in for 20–40 minutes
4. Expect a tingle — a mild tingling or warmth is normal as the nicotine releases
5. Remove and dispose — when you're done, take it out and throw it away. Most cans have a top compartment for used pouches

That's it. You can adjust how long you keep a pouch in based on how strong you want the experience.

How Strong Is a Pouch?

Strength is printed on the can in milligrams of nicotine per pouch, and it is the one number worth getting right before you buy. On our wall the range runs from 9mg (light–moderate) up to 16.5mg (very strong), and if this is your first pouch, start at the bottom of that scale. Stepping up later is easy; recovering from a pouch that was far too strong is not — too much nicotine at once causes nausea, dizziness, hiccups and an upset stomach.

The full ladder, brand by brand, with what each step actually feels like, is broken down here: nicotine pouch strengths explained, 6mg to 16mg.

How to Choose Your First Pouch

Pick based on three things:

1. Strength — start at 9mg if you're new; 11–12mg if you already use nicotine regularly
2. Flavour — mint is the classic starting point, but fruit flavours (cherry, mango, berry) and novelty flavours (cola, coffee) are popular too
3. Format — almost all modern pouches are slim and all-white, which fit discreetly and don't stain

Popular Nicotine Pouch Flavours

The flavour range is huge, but they generally fall into a few families:

• Mint & menthol — Cool Mint, Spearmint, Double Mint, Peppered Mint, Dark Frost, Cool Mint Ice
• Fruit — Cool Watermelon, Wintery Watermelon, Groovy Grape, Red Fruits, Frost Berry, Blackcurrant Frost
• Fruit-mint blends — Apple Mint, Guava Spice
• Tobacco-flavoured (still tobacco-free) — White Fox GN Tobacco Red Edition

A Few Tips for New Users

• Start low and slow — one lower-strength pouch is plenty to begin with
• Don't chew or swallow — just let it rest in place
• Keep water handy — staying hydrated helps if you feel any dryness
• Store cans sealed — keeping the lid closed preserves moisture and flavour
• Stop if you feel unwell — if you feel dizzy or queasy, remove the pouch; it likely means the strength was too high for you

Frequently Asked Questions

Are nicotine pouches tobacco-free? Yes. Nicotine pouches like ZYN, Velo, and White Fox contain nicotine but no tobacco leaf — that's why they're called "all-white" pouches.

How long do you leave a nicotine pouch in? Most people keep a pouch in for 20–40 minutes. You can remove it sooner if the effect is strong enough.

What strength should a beginner start with? The lightest you can find — 9mg is the entry point on our wall and the easiest to tolerate. Step up only once you know how it affects you.

Do nicotine pouches stain your teeth? All-white pouches are designed not to stain teeth or gums the way some tobacco products can.

Are nicotine pouches legal in Canada? Yes, for adults 19 and older. Age verification is required at purchase and delivery.
